Spark plug design and service life vary by engine. Worn or fouled plugs can contribute to hard starting, misfires and poor performance, but those symptoms can also have other causes.
If a warning light is on or the engine runs roughly, begin with diagnostics rather than assuming plugs alone will solve the problem.

Use the plug type and replacement schedule for the engine. Different designs and operating conditions mean there is no single interval for every vehicle.
Do not diagnose by symptom alone
Hard starting, rough idle and poor acceleration can also involve coils, fuel delivery, compression or electrical faults. A warning light should be scanned before assuming plugs are the only cause.
Share the service history
Tell the shop when plugs or ignition components were last replaced and whether the symptom began after recent work. That history helps avoid unnecessary duplication.
