Diagnose major drivability problems carefully.

Engine and transmission inspection and service for leaks, noise, poor performance and shifting concerns.

Drivetrain service

Start with the symptom before assuming the worst.

Transmission concerns can show up as delayed engagement, slipping, harsh shifts, shuddering or fluid leaks. Engine concerns may include overheating, knocking, smoke, misfires, power loss or oil and coolant loss. Some symptoms originate in related controls, ignition or electrical systems rather than a complete engine or transmission failure.

We begin with vehicle diagnostics and the service history, then test the systems connected to the symptom. Depending on the findings, the plan may involve maintenance, transmission service, component repair or replacement. We explain the evidence and repair direction before work begins. Related checks may include vehicle electrical diagnosis or oil and filter service. Do not continue driving an overheating vehicle or one with severe knocking, active fluid loss or a flashing warning light.

What to expect

Engine and transmission symptoms need different evidence.

Record when the fault appears

For shifting concerns, note gear, speed, temperature and throttle position. For engine concerns, record warning lights, temperature, smoke colour, noise and fluid loss. Recent service history can materially change the starting point.

Confirm the system before choosing the repair

Road behaviour, scan information, fluid condition and targeted tests help distinguish internal engine or transmission concerns from controls, ignition and electrical systems. A major replacement should not be the first assumption.

Protect the vehicle

Stop driving with overheating, severe knocking, a flashing warning light or rapid fluid loss. Safe towing can cost far less than additional damage caused by continuing.

Common questions

Engine and transmission questions.

What details help diagnose a shifting problem?

Note whether it happens cold or warm, at a particular speed, under acceleration, and whether any warning lights are on.

Should I drive an overheating vehicle to the shop?

Continuing to drive can cause major damage. Stop safely and call the shop or arrange towing.

Do you provide transmission repair or only diagnostics?

Aram's Auto diagnoses shifting, fluid-loss and drivability concerns, then explains the appropriate transmission service or repair direction for the vehicle.
